Grattery

Grattery is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Grattery situated at an altitude of 232 m above sea level, about 8 km northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department in which the Talniederung Scyotte, between the valley of the Saône to the west and the basin of Vesoul in the east.

The area of ​​6.19 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the rolling countryside of the east of the Saônetals. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the Talniederung the Scyotte, which provides for drainage Saône. The flood plain has a maximum width of 500 m and is on average 230 m. Flanked the valley on both sides of a plateau, which consists of a alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments of the upper Jurassic period. In the north, older layers emerge. The plateau is mainly used for agricultural purposes. With 296 m is reached on the knoll east of the village is the highest elevation of Grattery. History

In the Middle Ages Grattery belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Chemilly. Together with the Franche -Comté Grattery came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Grattery is a member of the 16- villages municipal association Communauté de communes de la Saône Jolie.

Attractions

The village church of Grattery was built in the 18th century. It houses statues of the Blessed Virgin from the 17th and 18th centuries. Near the church is the Fontaine- Lavoir that once served as well, wash and livestock watering.

Population

With 199 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Grattery one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 249 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Grattery was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road N19, which runs from Belfort via Vesoul to Langres. Further road links exist with Bougnon, Scye and Villers -sur- Port. Grattery has a station on the railway from Vesoul to Langres.
