Geography

Vaumarcus located 447 m above sea level. M., 18.2 km in a straight line southwest of the capital of the canton of Neuchâtel. The nearest major town is Yverdon, which is 14.2 km in a straight line to the southwest. The municipality stretches along the foot of the Jura, near the shores of Lake Neuchâtel, south of the mouth of the river La Vaux.

The area extends from the shoreline strips westward across the height of the Bois de Seyte and the little valley of Vernéaz up to the eastern slopes of Mont Aubert, at the 640 m above sea level. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1194 under the name Vallis Margult 1228 appeared the name Valmarcuel. Attractions

The Vaumarcus castle stands on a ridge above the valley of the river La Vaux. It was rebuilt after 1476. The newer lock part with a large terrace was added in 1773. The mid-20th century fully restored castle now houses the local council and also serves as a gastronomic and cultural center. Vaumarcus does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Saint- Aubin- Sauges.
