Vehicle registration plates of Cuba

The current Cuban license plate system was introduced on 27 May 2013, and is based on the appearance of the Euro plate. The signs of previous systems were, however, modeled on the U.S. standard.

Current System

The signs have a size of 420 mm × 110 mm and are thus ten inches shorter than the European unit measure. You begin with an area on the left edge, in the name of the country CUBA is represented by one over the other standing letters. For private vehicles, the surface is white, while blue is filled with state approval. This is followed by a letter and six digits in two groups of three in FE font. Indicator for two-wheelers have the dimensions 200 mm × 140 mm and have only five digits. In contrast to previous systems, all signs now have a uniform white color with black writing. Various vehicle types are characterized by certain letters. A regional classification of vehicles is no longer possible. The letters I, O, Q, S, W and Z are not used.

Meaning of letters:

System 2002-2013

Between January 2002 and May 2013, the Cuban license plates consisted usually of three letters and three digits. About the combination of the country's name CUBA was to read. Among the center appeared a small number that indicated the vehicle type. Indicator for tourists and car rental were red with white lettering. They showed a T and the five digits at the beginning of the shield. Temporary license plates began with the province of letters and ended after four digits on the letter P. The color was also red. Bright green plate with black lettering were the Ministry of Interior reserved. They showed followed by five digits of the province of letters. Down the middle came the abbreviation of the Ministry Ministerio del Interior span for MININT ( Ministry of Interior ).

Features of the Cuban military had dark green signs with white letters. According to a letter followed by up to six, with two wheels than four digits. Under the combination of the acronym FAR appeared Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias for span ( Revolutionary Armed Forces ).

Diplomatic used the color white on black. The inscription consisted of six digits, of which the first three encrypted the country of origin. In the lower left corner a small letter referred to the status of the vehicle. The letters C (Consular corps ), D ( Diplomatic Corps ) and E were used ( otherwise embassy vehicle).
