Velké Bílovice

Velké Bílovice ( German United Billowitz ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located ten kilometers north of Břeclav and belongs to Okres Břeclav.

Geography

The South Moravian wine city is located in the Thaya level and is drained by the creek Bílovický. It is surrounded to the north, east and south by vineyards. Three kilometers to the north is the 262 m high hill Zimarky. East of the river runs Prušánka, which is dammed in several serving small dams for irrigation purposes. By Velké Bílovice leads the state road 422 from Valtice to Kyjov. Southwest runs the route of the D2 motorway with the departure Podivín.

Neighboring towns are Vrbice in the north, Čejkovice and Nový Poddvorov in the northeast, Moravian Zizkov in the southeast, Ladná in the south, Podivín the southwest, Rakvice in the west and Velkopavlovice and Bořetice in the northwest.

History

He was first mentioned place in 1306, when it acquired after the death of Sigfried Sirotky Tobias Bechyne. 1376 bought Mikuláš of Rabštejn the possession and after his death Bílovice fell to Jobst of Moravia, who sold it to Gerhard / Heralt of Kunštát. From this it inherited in 1406 Boček II of Podiebrad. After his death in 1417 Bílovice belonged to 1525, the Liechtenstein. 1532 Bernhard Elder was Žerotín Lord on Bílovice. Together with his brothers was in 1551 Friedrich von Zierotin owners.

In Bílovice Brethren and Anabaptists settled in the 16th century. The latter founded here in 1545 a Bruderhof. 1564 was carried out by D. J. January Žerotín on Břeclav the construction of the Church of the Brethren. Jan von Zerotin left with his wife Kunka of Boskowitz rebuild the medieval festivals into a Renaissance chateau. Her son Ladislav Velen of Zerotein was the organizer of the Moravian estates uprising of 1619 and was expropriated after the Battle of White Mountain.

Owned a mansion Lundenburg including Billowitz was Esther Countess of Meggau and after her Jacob Graf Kuen of Bellassy. 1638 acquired Karl Eusebius of Liechtenstein possession and the goods remained until 1925 when the House of Liechtenstein. Johann Wenzel of Liechtenstein in 1765 the church was re-catholicize.

  • Hill Zimarky, former fortified settlement from the 14th and 15th centuries and today a viewpoint. On the hill, a chapel was erected in 2002, which is dedicated to St. Cyril, Methodius, Urban and Wenzel.
