Velké Opatovice

Velké Opatovice ( German United Opatowitz ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located 14 kilometers north of Boskovice in the Little Hanna and belongs to Okres Blansko.

Geography

Velké Opatovice situated on the River Jevíčka in the designated as Small Hanna northern part of the Bosko brázda between the Drahany country and the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands. Due to the city is the main road between Letovice and Jevíčko as well as the railway between Chornice and Boskovice. Two kilometers north is the small creek fed by the reservoir Malonínský Smolna. To the south rises the 513 m high Hradisko.

Neighboring towns are Jevíčko and Jaroměřice in the northeast, Nový Dvůr in the east, and Uhřice Cetkovice the southeast, Borotín in the south, Velka Roudka the southwest, Skočova Lhota u Brťov Velkých Opatovic and Újezd ​​in the west and Smolna in the northwest.

History

A 1308 Castle Cimburk closed purchase agreement for the site is the first documentary mention dar. Opatovice was during this period of two villages, the upper and the lower village. The upper village was the seat of a basic rule, belonged to their owners including the gender of Věžník zu Salm - Reifferscheidt - Raitz and Herbersteins. After the replacement of patrimonial regimes in 1848 Opatowitz was abolished a separate municipality and the dichotomy. To distinguish them from the same places in the village name was changed in 1888 in the United Opatowitz or Velké Opatovice.

On October 15, 1969 Velké Opatovice became a town.

Attractions

  • Velké Opatovice, originally built in 1757, after the fire of 2nd January 1973, completed the reconstruction of the city since 1924 associated castle in 1990.
