Veľké Úľany

Veľké Úľany ( until 1948 slovak " Velky Fedymeš "; Hungarian Nagyfödémes ) is a municipality in western Slovakia.

Location

It is located in the Danube lowland between the rivers Maly Dunaj and Čierna voda, about 12 km away from Galanta.

To the municipality next to the main town also includes the settlement Nové Osady (1936 spun off in 1976 amalgamated again)

History

The village was first mentioned in 1221 as Fudemus.

Until 1918 Veľké Úľany belonged in the county Pressburg the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. By the First Vienna Award of the City from 1938 to 1945 came briefly back to Hungary and since 1993 has been part of the present-day Slovakia.

Attractions

Worth seeing are the Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Archangel Michael from the 16th/17th. Century, a Protestant church in 1958 and a Calvary with a chapel from 1756. Moreover, there is in place, the small pool Modrá Perla.

The majority of the population presented in 2001 by Hungary with 71 percent, the Slovaks are represented in 28 percent of the population.
