Vera C. Bushfield

Vera Cahalan Bushfield ( born August 9, 1889 in Miller, Hand County, South Dakota, † April 16, 1976 in Fort Collins, Colorado) was an American politician of the Republican Party.

Life and work

After school, she received her degree at the University of Wisconsin- Stout in Menominee, Wisconsin. She also attended Dakota Wesleyan University and the University of Minnesota.

On October 6, 1948, she was nominated as the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, after her husband Harlan J. Bushfield was a few days earlier died and therefore his seat had to be filled. She served in the Senate for the remaining months, her husband who had died before the end of his term, until December 26, 1948 Then she stepped back. ; her successor, Karl Earl Mundt. Vera Bushfield died in 1976 and was buried in her birthplace Miller.
