Verona–Bologna railway

The rail line Verona -Bologna connecting Bologna, capital of Emilia -Romagna region of Italy, with Verona, one of the most important rail hub of northern Italy. The track is a central part of the railway axis Berlin- Palermo, was because of their one-track but also one of the most critical operations.

Extension

In order to meet the high demands of a TEN- axis meet, the line was expanded in recent years. The expansion, however, not a pure high-speed line to be built, but also the capacity of the line will be increased so that a high- speed route is created.

The main measures were:

  • Increase the performance of currently 90 on the future 210 trains per day
  • New top speed 200 km / h for tilting trains 230 km / h
  • Replacement of all crossings by under-or overpasses

By the end of 2007, the portions were S Bologna. Felice and Nogara -Verona in full expansion in operation. The next commissioning took place on October 26, 2008 ( S. Felice Poggio Rusco - ) and 14 December 2008 ( Poggio Rusco - Nogara, on a section to January 2009, single-track ). On 26 June 2009, the expansion work has been with the commissioning of the second track in Bauabschschnitt Ostiglia - Poggio Rusco completed.

The track is on the sections Bologna - Verona equipped with cab signaling RSC - S. Felice and Nogara. In the middle section S. Felice - Nogara an axle counting block is applied. A novel simplified cab signaling (infill ) can be driven on this stretch at 200 km / hr.

Criticisms are, especially in the last opened the middle section, the extremely large block distances of up to 15 km and the small number of transitional und overtaking Ellen. This is especially noticeable by the distinct mixed operation with freight and commuter trains and express trains at 200 km / hr.
