The Vetluga (Russian Ветлуга, mari Вӱтла ) is a 889 km long left tributary of the Volga River in the European part of Russia.

Course

The Vetluga springs west of the city of Kirov Oblast in the same name at Leninskoje. Initially it flows mainly in eastern and northeastern directions, but soon turns to the west.

It flows through the northeastern part of the Kostroma Oblast, where it picks up the Wochma. A few kilometers before Scharja bends the Vetluga off to the south. Even before the city opens the Bolshaya Schanga one. A few kilometers to the confluence of the Neja reached the Vetluga the northeastern part of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.

In the city Vetluga the river turns for several dozen kilometers to the southwest, before he gradually oriented to the southeast. He reached the northwest border of the Republic of Mari El and takes the Juronga on. Shortly thereafter, the Vetluga opens in Kosmodemjansk in the Tscheboksarsker Reservoir of the Volga.
