Viatcheslav Moshe Kantor

Vyacheslav Moshe Kantor (Russian Вячеслав Моше Кантор; born September 8, 1953 in Moscow ) is a Russian entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is one of the world's richest Russians. Since 2007 he has been President of the European Jewish Congress.

Life

Kantor was born in 1953 as the son of a soldier of the Red Army and later the branch manager. He studied at the State Aviation Institute, Moscow ( Ph.D. 1981). He then worked as a scientist and businessman. Since 1993 he has headed the agrochemical Acron Group. From 1996 to 2000 he also served as Advisor to the Chairman of the Federation Council, the upper house of the Parliament chambers of Russia. Forbes magazine lists him in his billionaire ranking 42nd position in Russia (March 2013).

He was Vice President of the Euro - Asian Jewish Congress, 2002; 2005 President of the Russian Jewish Congress and 2007 of the European Jewish Congress ( EJC ). He is active internationally as a philanthropist, and was one of the founding members of the World Holocaust Forum Foundation ( WHF ) and the European Jewish Fund. Cantor is one of the major sponsors of the Holocaust History Museum, the Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. At Tel Aviv University, he established a Center for European Jewish Cultural Studies. He was named one of the Israeli daily The Jerusalem Post (2013 ) to the world's most influential Jewish personalities.

In 2007 he was also elected President of the International Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe and founded a year later, the non-governmental organization European Council on Tolerance and Reconciliation ( ECTR ). He is married and has four children.
