Vic-le-Comte

Vic- le -Comte is a commune in the Auvergne region in the Puy -de- Dôme in the arrondissement of Clermont- Ferrand in the canton of Vic- le -Comte.

General

The municipality of 18.09 square kilometers located in the valley of the Allier River at 331-806 meters above sea level and has 4849 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). The place is 25 km from Clermont- Ferrand and 16 km from Issoire and lies on the Cévennes railway line. The charming landscape of Vic is the volcanic area of Limagne between the course of the River Allier and the mountains of livradois National Park Parc des Volcans.

Vic- le- Comte, has about 150 commercial, trade and craft shops, two primary schools, two kindergartens and a College, as well as various social and administrative facilities. More than 40 teams are active in sports and culture.

History

The city was founded by the Gauls and the Romans, and was from the 13th to the 15th century, the county town of Auvergne. 1505 married Jean Stuart, Duke of Albany and Count de la Marche, Anne de la Tour, the eldest daughter of John III. de la Tour et de l' Auvergne and Jeanne de Bourbon- Vendôme. Their residence was Vic- le -Comte. Due to lack of offspring and thus the county Auvergne Vic- le -Comte came into the possession of Caterina de ' Medici, as the French queen but never resided here.

A young community member is longues, which extends around the paper mill of the Bank of France and where a 18 m high railway viaduct spans the river Allier.
