Víctor Cáceres

Víctor Javier Cáceres Centurión ( born March 25, 1985 in Asunción ) is a Paraguayan footballer who plays for Flamengo in the Campeonato Brasileiro.

The aerially strong defensive midfielder is valued in his club and the Paraguayan national team, mainly due to his strong tackling and commitment.

His brother Marcos Caceres is also the Paraguayan national team and currently plays for Racing Club Avellaneda.

Club career

At the age of 18 years Cáceres moved from Atlantida SC to Club Libertad, a club from his hometown Ascunción. At Club Libertad he came as a 21 -year-old under its current coach Gerardo Martino for his pro debut. On July 22, 2006 Cáceres scored his first league goal in a 1-0 against Club Atlético 3 de Febrero. With Club Libertad he was in 2006 Paraguayan champions and reached the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores, where they lost against SC Internacional.

A year later he was in the final leg to the Paraguayan Championship Player of the Day. 2-0 in the match against Sportivo Luqueño Cáceres scored his team by his two goals were headers to the championship.

After 2008 the Paraguay Apertura and Clausura mode was introduced, Cáceres twice was able to secure the Paraguayan championship in 2008. The undisputed master player this year came on his previous high of five goals in 33 games. In the following year, Cáceres was set, had to deal with his club, but be content with the runner-up in both the Apertura and Clausura in this year.

For the season 2012/13 he moved to the Brazilian first division side Flamengo free transfer of Rio de Janeiro.

National team career

Cáceres played on 5 June 2007 for the first time for the Paraguayan national team in a friendly against Mexico.

In 2007 he was in the preliminary squad for the Copa America 2007, but was later deleted.

In the World Cup qualifiers he ran in 13 of 18 games for Paraguay. As ten of Paraguay defeated 2-0 on matchday six qualifying Brazil, where he came on in the 51st minute. Paraguay held the lead in the group to South America at the beginning of the 13th matchday, when they lost against Chile. Two games left Cáceres was involved as a substitute to Paraguay's 1-0 win over Argentina, had also defeated the last South American World Cup at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco in this quality along with Brazil and Uruguay through the Paraguay. In addition, his team was already safely qualified by this victory for the 2010 World Cup.
