Viktor Savinykh

Viktor Petrovich Savinykh (Russian Виктор Петрович Савиных, scientific transliteration Viktor Petrovich Savinych; born March 7, 1940 in Berjoskiny, Kirov Oblast, Russian SFSR ) is an engineer and former Soviet cosmonaut.

Life

Viktor Savinykh graduated in 1969 from the Moscow University of Geodesy, Aerial Photography and Cartography as engineer. The State Inter-agency Commission chose him in consultation with NPO Energia to cosmonauts. His first flight took Savinykh as flight engineer of the sixth crew of Salyut 6; his shuttle spaceship was the Soyuz T- 4th After 1985 he was doing a PhD candidate of technical sciences, Savinykh flew as a member of the fourth crew on Soyuz T -13 space station Salyut 7, where he again held the post of the flight engineer. On August 2, 1985, he installed during a five-hour outboard activity, a fifth and sixth solar cell at the station. Savinykh returned with Soyuz T-14 back to Earth. His last space flight he undertook in 1988 with Soyuz TM- 5 again as a Flight Engineer. Viktor Savinykh retired from the cosmonaut corps on 9 September 1989.

Savinykh is author of a number of textbooks, monographs, and articles dealing with issues relating to remote sensing of the earth from the cosmos. He also wrote popular books about the cosmos and is a member of the Writers' Union. 1990 Habilitation Savinykh to the doctor of technical sciences. From 1988 to 2007 he was rector of the University of Geodesy, Aerial Photography and Cartography in Moscow, which was raised under his leadership to the University of Geodesy and Cartography. Since 2007 he has been its president. He is also president of the Association of Russian universities.

He is an honorary citizen of the city of Kaluga, Perm and Kirov (Russia), Schesqasghan (Kazakhstan ), Ulaanbaatar and Darkhan (both Mongolia).

Savinykh is married and has one child.
