Vincenzo Manfredini

Vincenzo Manfredini ( born October 22, 1737 Pistoia; † August 16, 1799 in Saint Petersburg ) was an Italian harpsichordist, composer and music theorist. (Name and details of life in Russian: Винченцо Манфредини (* 22 X 1737 Пистоя, близ Флоренции; † 5 (16 ) VIII 1799 Петербург ). )

Life

The son of composer Francesco Manfredini first studied with his father, later he continued his studies in Bologna Giacomo Antonio Perti in (1661-1756) and in Milan with Giovanni Andrea Fiorini (1716-1778) continued. End of 1757 or early 1758 he was accompanied by his elder brother Giuseppe Manfredini, a castrato who worked in the opera troupe, Giovanni Battista Locatelli, to Saint Petersburg and remained until 1769 at the Imperial Court, where he served as Kapellmeister. In 1762 he led there on his opera Olimpiade. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed Head of the Italian opera of St. Petersburg, he was also harpsichord teacher of Tsarevich Paul. 1769 he returned to Bologna with a pension and composed two operas: Armida after the famous libretto by Duranti (not Durandi ), premiered in May 1770, the Nuovo Teatro Pubblico di Bologna, and Artaserse, dramma per musica, premiered in January 1772 during the Carnival in Venice at the Teatro San Benedetto. Soon after he left, however, from the Opera and devoted himself to music lessons and especially the music theory. Manfredinis first book Regole armoniche ( rules of harmony, Venice 1775) was later used by the composer Stepan Degtyaryov (* 1766, † May 5, 1813 ) translated. In addition, Manfredini published in 1776 a collection of symphonies and string quartets in 1781 more.

After the accession of Paul I who asked him to return to Russia. In September 1798 he arrived in St. Petersburg, but died a few months later.
