Vincenzo Moretti

Vincenzo Moretti ( born November 14, 1815 in Orvieto, † October 6, 1881 in Bologna ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Vincenzo Moretti grew up as the son of Domenico Moretti and Elisabetta Mazzoni Brancaleone on in Orvieto, where he received the sacrament of Confirmation on April 24, 1821. Without ever having entered the Order, Moretti first studied at the Jesuit College in Orvieto, and later also in Orvieto, at the local seminary theology. On September 22, 1838 Moretti was ordained a priest.

His studies he ended Collegio Romano in Rome first on May 31, 1844, when he received his doctorate in a first part exam for doctor of theology. He was last on March 9, 1848 Doctor of Law, both in civil law as well as in matters of church law.

Moretti was used in the Diocese of Orvieto as a canon in the cathedral of Orvieto. On October 18, 1845, he took over the post of the professor of Sacred Scripture at the minor seminary of Orvieto, before he rose to the rank of Vicar-General on 30 December 1848.

On 17 December 1855, the appointment as Bishop of Comacchio was; episcopal ordination took place on January 13, 1856 held in Rome and was donated by Cardinal Costantino Patrizi Naro. Moretti took over as Bishop of Comacchio three other dioceses. So he moved on 23 May 1860 as bishop in the diocese of Cesena, on March 27, 1867 in the Diocese of Imola and most recently on 27 October 1871 in the Archdiocese of Ravenna.

Already on September 13, 1863 Moretti rose to the personal advisor of Pope Pius IX. on. So it was no surprise when this took him in his last consistory of December 28, 1877 to the College of Cardinals. After the presentation of cardinal ring and biretta Moretti took over on December 31, 1877 cardinal priest the titular church of Santa Sabina. Shortly after Moretti counted in February 1878 one of the members of this year's conclave, in which Leo XIII. was elected as the new pope. This Moretti appointed on 25 April 1878 Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Comacchio.

Cardinal Moretti died three years later, just weeks before his 66th birthday. After the ceremonial laying out in the church of San Martino in Bologna, the remains were interred in a grave in the cemetery of Bologna.
