Višňové (Žilina District)

Višňové (Hungarian Felsővisnyó - Visnyó to 1907 ) is a Slovak parish in the district Žilina, in the southeast of the basin Žilinská kotlina at the foot of the Lesser Fatra, about 10 km from Zilina and is traversed by a stream brook called Višňovský.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1393. In the reign of Castle Lietava residing place is mentioned as possessio Wysnew. At times, the town was also the castle Strečno. Between 1980-1990 the church was a part of the north western city of Žilina.
