Vladimír Podzimek

Vladimír Podzimek ( born May 12, 1965 in Jilemnice, † May 17, 1994 ) was a Czechoslovakian ski jumper.

Career

Podzimek announced on December 30, 1983 his international debut at the Ski Jumping World Cup in Oberstdorf in the Four Hills Tournament 1983/84. On 14 January 1984, he reached in Harrachov with eighth place for the first time the points and a place in the top ten. After another top - 10 ranking in Liberec, he received a nomination for the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, which rank as the world championship at the same time. He reached in jumping on the large hill in eighth place, after he had to settle on the normal hill with space 39. The team competition Nordic World Ski Championships 1984 took place in Engelberg. He won the bronze medal with the team. After Olympics, he was able to convince with good results in the World Cup. On March 11, 1984, he won his first and only World Cup competition on Holmenkollbakken.

In the Ski Flying World Cup 1986, he missed the medals with a fourth place just barely. In the World Cup he could not keep constant its performance after his victory in 1984. Best position in 1987 was a second place in Lahti. After he was unable to duck costly services in the port again, he finished in 1991 at the age of only 25 years of his active ski jumping career.

Podzimek hanged himself in 1994 at the age of 29, after his wife Vladka had moved together with their daughter.
