Voith Maxima

Under the name of the Voith Maxima locomotives GmbH & Co. KG sells six - and four-axle, diesel-hydraulic locomotives for freight and passenger traffic. The Voith Maxima 40 CC is currently the world's most powerful single-engine, six-axle diesel- hydraulic locomotive.

History

The Maxima 40 CC is the first locomotive, the fully self from the company Voith Turbo GmbH & Co. KG locomotive was designed and constructed. Already in the 1990s, Voith had the gearbox developed LS 640 reU2, wanted to build a correspondingly powerful locomotive with Vossloh MaK. In view of the variety after the turn taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn major Soviet diesel locomotives but the DB renounced an appropriate development order to Vossloh. Because of the uncertain future of the locomotive design at Vossloh and the development costs be recovered through Voith took the design and construction of its own locomotive, the maxima. The Maxima was designed by Voith Turbo specifically for the cross-border traffic, for example with Eastern Europe.

2006, the first prototype of a Maxima 40CC was presented at InnoTrans, which is largely identical to the 30CC. Two years later, the plan for a previously realized Maxima 20BB was presented at the same fair. This differs in addition to the weaker diesel engine mainly by the four-axle configuration and a lower axle load of their larger sisters.

On 23 December 2008, the locomotive in Germany has received approval from the Federal Railway Authority. Furthermore, planned admission procedure in the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland. Meanwhile, waiting in the Kiel plant first machine on extradition, as to the Berlin hvle and to the Dutch leasing company Ox-traction.

Variants

In order to provide locomotives with different traction tasks, including the family of diesel-hydraulic locomotives of Voith Turbo in addition to the main line locomotives maxima and the shunting gravitation. The Maxima is offered in three performance classes:

  • The 6 -axle 40 CC ( 3,600 kW / 4,896 hp engine power)
  • The 6 -axle 30 CC ( 2,750 kW / 3,740 hp or 3,000 kW / 4,080 hp / 3,200 kW / 4,352 hp engine power)
  • The 4-axle 20 BB ( 2,000 kW / 2,720 hp or 2,400 kW / 3,264 hp engine power)

Construction

The locomotive body is entirely made of steel. Both cabs have two driver seats (one for the drivers and one additional Beimannsitz ). The control panel is based on a unit of Deutsche Bahn driver's desk and designed according to ergonomic principles. Both cabs are air conditioned and modern, they even feature floor - and Fußstützenheizung.

The Maxima 40CC has a 4 - stroke diesel engine of the type ABC 16 V DZC the Anglo Belgian Corporation, which allows a company starting tractive effort of 408 kN and a maximum starting tractive effort of 519 kN. The 30CC is powered by a twelve-cylinder engine (ABC 12 V DZC ) from the same manufacturer. The maximum speed of the locomotive is 120 km / h but there is also the possibility of up to 160 km / h The locomotive has a transmission Voith Turbo Split LS 640 reU2, which allows a separate spin protection for the two bogies. For brakes are a dynamic and a pneumatic brake. The smallest unforced navigable arc radius is 80 m. The fuel tank has a capacity at the six-axle versions up to 9,000 liters of fuel (up to 10,000 liters in the 30 CC) while it is in the 20BB up to 5,000 liters.

The design of the Voith Maxima was developed by the company ma design and awarded the Red Dot Award 2007.

Orders

In mid-February 2008, ordered 77 copies of the maxima. By Ox-traction 15 Maxima 30 CC and 40 CC were ordered. Another framework contract for Maximas 23 was also signed. Ox-traction N.V. was 44 % owned by Voith Turbo, in the fall of 2010, the company introduced its operations on until all 15 maxima were delivered.

The Havelländische Railroad had two Voith Maxima 40 CC for delivery in the years 2008 and 2009 ordered. In addition, a possible delivery over 6 more locomotives has been agreed. Despite the high order numbers only 13 Maxima 40 CC and 7 Maxima 30 CC are made.

The production of the Maxima has been set. A total of 20 Maxima diesel locomotives were produced.

Manufacturing and maintenance

The production of the Voith Maxima takes place in a new factory on the site of the Kiel northern port directly on the Kiel Canal.

For the maintenance of the vehicles, Voith has a contract with the ports and freight Köln AG ( HGK ) on the establishment of a central workshop for Europe in Brühl- Vochem closed.
