Volen Siderov

Volen Nikolov Siderov ( Bulgarian Волен Николов Сидеров, scientific transliteration Volen Siderov; born April 19, 1956 in Yambol, Bulgaria) is the Chairman of the Bulgarian nationalist party Ataka. He is known for attacks on Bulgarian journalists and xenophobic opinion proclamations against ethnic minorities.

Curriculum vitae

Siderov studied photography in Sofia and worked before the fall of Communism ( 1989) as a photographer for the National Museum of Literature.

Journalistic activity

Even before the fall of communism Siderov became a member of the Independent Society for the Protection of Human Rights. Mid-1990, he became chief editor of the newspaper Democracy. At this time Democracy was politically close to the Democratic Party of Bulgaria. Under Siderov the newspaper became the official publication of the center-right party Union of Democratic Forces.

1992 Siderov was fired for Democracy and ended all relations with its political partners. He was then deputy editor of Monitor, a newspaper which is nationalistic and conservative policy perspective.

In 2000 Siderov was honored with the Award of the Bulgarian Association of Journalists. After he had to leave also monitor, he was moderator of Ataka, a talk show on Bulgarian TV channel SKAT. Political rise

He was the candidate of the party Ataka in the presidential election in Bulgaria, which was held on 23 October 2011.

Political Position

Since then Siderov is politically active, he criticized that renowned Bulgarian parties cooperate with organized crime. Moreover, in his view, go to great dangers of minorities and (illegal) immigrants from.

Scandals

Threat
