Vozokany, Galanta District

Vozokany ( until 1927 slovak " Vezekény "; Hungarian Pozsonyvezekény - to 1907 Vezekény ) is a municipality in western Slovakia. It lies in the Danubian Lowland on the connecting road between Galánta and Dunajská Streda the course of the river Čierna voda ( " black water ").

The first written mention of falls in the year 1297th In 1300, the place was as the property of Dominik, a son of the family of Bartolomejaner enumerated.

At the beginning of the 15th century the castle belonged to the rule Vozokany Šintava, in the 16th century it belonged to members of the noble families Rozgonyi, Kanizsai and Thurzos. From 1636 it was then owned by the Esterházy family.

The place is characterized mainly by agriculture, but it is also operated fishing and hunting. There is in place a church of 1718, this burned in 1923 during a fire starting.

Until 1918 Vozokany belonged in the county Pressburg the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. By the First Vienna Award of the City from 1938 to 1945 came briefly back to Hungary and since 1993 has been part of the present-day Slovakia.

The town's name derives from the Turkish word bazäkän, which translates as "little ornament " means from.
