Vratimov

Vratimov ( German Rattimau ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located seven kilometers south of the city center on the outskirts of Ostrava, Ostrava- město Okres belongs to.

Geography

Vratimov is located on the right bank of the Ostravice in the Ostrava basin. North of town is the area of Mittal Steel Ostrava as In the south of the city testify to two castle stables at the Ostravice of the Silesian- Moravian border along the river.

Neighboring towns are Bartovice in the northeast, Horni Datyně and Václavovice in the east, and Řepiště Paskov in the south, Hrabova in the West, as well as Hrabůvka and Kunčice nad Ostravicí in the northwest.

History

Vratimov was founded in the second half of the 13th century during the colonization of the country by the Teschen derived from an old noble family Lusatian Jan von Baruth. Since the division of an estate of 1281 Vratimov was part of the Duchy of Teschen and belonged to the manor Polish Ostrava. The first documentary mention as Wrothimow place in the year 1305. The place was located on the border of Silesia to Moravia.

At the end of the 19th century began the industrialization in the 1880s, a pulp mill was built. On October 16, 1923 between Vratimov and Paskov a serious train accident occurred by the collision of two countermoves.

1951 was just north of the city in Kunčice nad Ostravicí the Nová huť, which was next to ironworks city and Nowa Huta one of the most important metallurgical combines of the Eastern Bloc, and today as ArcelorMittal Ostrava as operates. Until 1 January 2007 Vratimov belonged to Okres Frýdek- Místek.
