Vyborgsky District, Leningrad Oblast

The Wyborgski rayon (Russian Выборгский район ) is a raion in the northwestern part of the Leningrad Oblast. The administrative center is the city of Vyborg.

Geography

The 7351 km ² large Rajon is on the Karelian Isthmus. It is crossed by numerous lakes and has a coastline on the Gulf of Finland.

History

The Rajon was founded in 1940, as was originally the Finnish territory of Finland to the Soviet Union as a result of the Peace of Moscow.

By Rajon the European Route 18, also Russian highway A181 Skandinawija leads ( formerly part of the M10).
