Vydrník

Vydrník ( until 1927 slovak " Vyderník "; Wiedrig German, Hungarian Védfalu - to 1907 Vidernik ) is a town in eastern Slovakia, with 1100 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2011). It belongs to Okres Poprad, which is a part of the overall district Prešov Region.

Geography

The municipality is situated by the stream Vydričanka, a left tributary of Hornád, in the western part of the basin Hornádska kotlina. Traditionally, a town in the countryside Zips. Vydrník is situated 14 kilometers from Poprad.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1294, but there was already a settlement at the time of Great Moravia. The agriculturally oriented Vydrník originated within the good from the nearby monastery Spišský Štiavnik. Today's Roman Catholic Church was built in 1802 on the site of a Gothic church from the 13th century. 1840 erected a small spa at the site of the local mineral springs.
