Wacław Sieroszewski

Waclaw Waclaw Sieroszewski alias Sirko ( born August 24, 1858 in Wólka Kozłowska in Tłuszcz, † April 20, 1945 in Piaseczno ) was a Polish writer of Young Poland period, Siberian exile, of the Order Virtuti Militari, Senator of the Second Republic Poland and President of the Polska Akademia Literatury. Sieroszewski wrote numerous novels, short stories and ethnographic Far Eastern works.

He spent fifteen years in Siberia. He lived twelve years among the Yakuts and became very familiar with their language and customs. He also conducted research on the Tungus, Chukchi and Yukagirs. In 1903 he traveled to Sakhalin.
