Walk off the Earth

Walk off the Earth is a Canadian indie rock band from Burlington, Ontario, which was established in 2006. With the song Somebody That I Used to Know, a cover version of Belgian- Australian musician Gotye, the group released in January 2012 a viral video that has been called within three months at YouTube around 125 million times.

Band History

The first album the group released in 2008 under the title Smooth Like Stone on a Beach in CDBY, a second album was released as MP3 downloads at 2010 Slapdash Records. The band previously coverte songs, among others, Adele and LMFAO. As Gianni " Luminati " Nicassio Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye heard on the radio, the idea was born to cover this track, along the lines of Radiohead's Karma Police. With the participation of singer Sarah Blackwood ( The Creepshow ), a music video was filmed within 14 hours, and placed at Youtube 5 January 2012 online. Within a week, the video traffic reached 17 million. The proliferation of videos on the Internet has accelerated among other things, a recommendation of Russell Crowe on Twitter. In the video, the band members playing together on a guitar, one of them beats the rhythm on their body and all sing the song. The song was played a little later already on the radio and the band was a guest on the talk show of Ellen DeGeneres. Already early May 2012 had the video more than 100 million hits on YouTube (as of December 20, 2012: 141 609 676 ) The song reached the charts in several countries. In Canada's Top Digital downloads the song reached # 3 in the Netherlands 9th place on March 17, 2012 the band played their first concert in Germany in Berlin. The band was also involved in the video YouTube Rewind 2012 style. The video has been viewed over 100 million times.
