Geography

Warngau located on the northern edge of the Alps with views of the nearby Bavarian Alps. The municipality is situated in the upper country, east of the forested mountain rising pigeons ( with lookout tower ) at 900 m on which is the most important drinking water reserves for Munich. A weather station is in Warngau now for several years a resident.

Traffic

The main town Warngau located on the B 318, only 6 km south of wooden churches and the Federal Highway 8 is removed. In the city of Munich there are 37 km, 19 km to Bad Tolz, to Gmund am Tegernsee 10 km, according to Mies Bach 15 km to Rosenheim 42 km. Warngau lies on the railway line wooden church Lenggries. This is traversed by the Bayerische Oberland Bahn hourly. There are trains to wooden churches, Munich, Lenggries, Bad Tolz and Tegernsee. Bus connections are made with wooden churches and Gmund am Tegernsee.

History

In the year 804 Oberwarngau was first mentioned and for a long time the Tegernsee monastery. In the course of administrative reform in the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1818 Warngau became an independent municipality.

Incorporations

On 1 May 1978, until then independent municipality Wall and a portion of the dissolved municipality Gotzing were incorporated by Warngau in the course of municipal reform.
