Warren Wolf (musician)

Warren Wolf Jr. ( born November 10, 1979 in Baltimore) is an American jazz vibraphonist (including drums, piano ) and composer.

Life and work

Wolf, who hails from Baltimore, had been the age of three with his father Warren Wolf Sr. music lessons; he met in subsequent years vibraphone / marimba, drums and piano. After a classical education at Leo LePage he worked sch with ragtime and jazz. He studied after completion of the Baltimore School for the Arts (1997) at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, including Dave Samuels and Ed Saindon. During this time he played among others with Jeremy Pelt, Wayne Escoffery, Kendrick Scott and trumpeter Jason Palmer, with whom he led a quintet that appeared in Cafe jazz club Wally's where Wolf was the house drummer for two years. After graduating from Berklee in 2001, he worked in Boston as a professional musician; From 2003 he also taught at the Percussion Department of the Berklee College. After two years he returned to Baltimore and worked there as a teacher of music and musicians, including Tia Fuller ( Healing Space, Mack Avenue 2007) and in the formation Donal Fox with John Lockwood, Dafnis Prieto and Terri Lyne Carrington, further comprising Bobby Watson.

2005 Wolf presented the debut album Incredible Jazz Vibes, in which, inter alia, the pianist Mulgrew Miller participated; 2011 appeared the album Warren Wolf with original compositions, which he recorded with Christian McBride and Gregory Hutchinson, followed by Wolfgang ( Mack Avenue ) 2013. In the field of jazz Wolf worked between 2001-2012 at 16 recording sessions.

In 2010 he won the Rising Star category in the Downbeat Critics Polls (vibraphone ).
