Waterford Kamhlaba

The Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa (short UWCSA ) is one of thirteen United World Colleges worldwide, a group of schools that educate through international education and social commitment to tolerance and social responsibility. Normally put sixteen to eighteen year old students after two school years, the International Baccalaureate (IB ) from, at Waterford College but also students in grades 6 to 10 are taught that may seek to acquire an IGCSE.

History

The school was founded in 1963 by the British in response to the Michael Stern, heavily influenced by the apartheid education system in South Africa and received in 1981 officially named the United World College. When King Sobhuza II in 1967, attended school, he gave her the name " Kamhlaba ". Kamhlaba is siSwati and means " of world," " his own world" and " all of a world". Waterford gained international fame when Nelson Mandela while he was in prison, and Desmond Tutu sent their children there. The college was yours the first schools in southern Africa, where pupils learned regardless of skin color and nationality together.

Campus

The Waterford Kamhlaba College is situated on a hill near the city of Mbabane in the small kingdom of Swaziland. The main buildings were designed by the Portuguese architect Amâncio d' Alpoim Miranda Guedes. In the center of the campus is the Plaza to which the assembly hall, the staff room and office, the amphitheater and the Centre for Creative Learning - Drama short CCLD and the Centre for Creative Learning Music CCLM adjacent short. The building, which houses the CCLM on the first floor the CCLD and the ground floor was built in 2005 in memory of the deceased during the tsunami in December 2004, Jane Holland and her mother.

The IB- boarders are housed in the two different residences, Emhlabeni and Elangeni. The boarding students in grades 6-10 living in Esilveni and Ekkukuleni. At the moment, the classroom building was expanded and two other homes built in North Beach, which are expected to be completed in early 2010 due to the growth of the school.

As part of the IB curriculum, the school offers the following subjects.

Humanities: History, Geography, Anthropology, Psychology, Economics, and Business & Management

Languages: English A1, English A2, Selftaught offered as part of the International Baccalaureate Organization ( IBO) subjects, French B, Spanish B and ab initio and siSwati A1 and ab initio.

Art: fine arts, music and theater sciences

Mathematics is offered as a Higher Level, Standard Level Maths Studies and as.

The school continues to offer a variety of extra-curricular activities, which are referred to as CAS ( Creativity, Action and Service ).
