Welland

Welland is a city in the Regional Municipality of Niagara in the south of the province of Ontario in Canada.

Welland owes its development to the favorable situation on the railway between Toronto and Buffalo and the Welland Canal as a waterway.

The city is known for its large French -speaking population. Welland is one of the few communities in southern Ontario, where the proportion of French speakers exceeds that of the provincial average.

Welland is also the location of the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, as part of the 31 Canadian Brigade Group, which corresponds to a light infantry.

The Welland's nickname is The Rose City. The city's inhabitants are referred to as Well Anders.
