Matt Ellis (ice hockey)

Matthew Ellis ( born August 31, 1981 in Welland, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who is since 2008 in the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League under contract and currently plays for the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

Career

Matt Ellis began his career in 1998 in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey League for the Toronto St. Michael's Majors. From year to year he was able to increase his points haul and scored in his last season in the OHL 38 goals and 51 assists in 66 games. He was also in the entire Canadian Hockey League along with Darryl boat land of the player with the best plus / minus value.

In May 2002 he was taken by the Detroit Red Wings under contract after being drafted by any NHL team. The season 2002/ 03 he spent in the East Coast Hockey League with the Toledo Storm, a farm team of the Detroit Red Wings. Ellis performed well and moved to the 2003/04 season to the Grand Rapids Griffins, the AHL farm team of the Red Wings. There he showed especially his qualities as a two-way forward, who acts as both offensively and defensively. Each year, he was able to further increase and was appointed captain of the Grand Rapids Griffins before the season 2005/ 06. On 18 December 2006 he was appointed for the first time in the NHL squad of the Detroit Red Wings and came in the 2006/07 season to a total of 16 appearances in the NHL.

For the season 2007/ 08 he was then fixed to the NHL squad the Red Wings, but was usually only used when another player was injured. When he should be sent in February 2008 to the Griffins in the AHL, he was set up by the Red Wings on the waiver list and before the deadline had expired, the Los Angeles Kings took the opportunity and committed Ellis. In Los Angeles, he played 19 league games yet, but there could not be established, so that was put on the waiver list again before the start of the 2008 /09 and switched to the Buffalo Sabres. Ellis was found, although for some games in the AHL with the Portland Pirates again, but eventually played the majority of the season in the NHL with the Sabres.

In the summer of 2009 his contract in Buffalo was extended by one year.
