Welschriesling

Riesling is a white grape variety.

Origin

The species probably originates from northern Italy, after their designation as " Riesling " ( Austria ) or " Olaszrizling " (Hungary ), " Laški Rizling " (Slovenia ), " Riesling Italian " (Romania ) and " Riesling Italico " (Italy ) suggesting. Or it has its origin in Champagne, where it is, however, no longer cultivated. Chance of a home, it is assumed from Romania, where the Riesling grape has spread to this day.

Descent

Like their origin and the origin of the vine is in the dark. The Elfling is the most closely related species. Not related, however, is the Welsch - with the actual (Rhein- or White ) Riesling.

Character

Riesling is a frost- resistant, late-ripening grape that at low rainfall feels particularly at home in the Central and Southeastern European continental climate and sandy, supplied with water and nutrients soils produces high yields. There is a vulnerability to stem necrosis, which can be counteracted by suitable cultivation measures.

From the grapes are i.d.R. won simple wines with lighter structure, a floral- fruity aroma prevails in the green apple, and tangy - fresh taste. The color ranges from pale greenish yellow in young wines to rich gold tones in the sweet -developed berries and Trockenbeerenauslese.

Dissemination

Mainly used in Central and Southeastern Europe, Riesling, for example, the most important variety of Hungarian wine region Badacsony. In Austria, it is of great importance. While around the Neusiedler See more sweet wines are expanded, the grape used in Styria and in the wine district as a basis for dry wines, but they are not very long shelf life without loss of their typical fruitiness. In 2009, the stocked area encompassed 4,385 acres, or 8.2 % of the total vineyard area. Thus, the Riesling is in Austria after the Grüner Veltliner, the most widely used white wine grape.

Other areas of production in Slovenia and Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic ( Moravia ), Slovakia and Italy ( Trentino, Friuli ).
