West Brompton station

West Brompton station is west of the center of London in the London borough of Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 2, at the West London railway line that travels around the city center. In addition to trains of railway companies Southern and London Overground here runs the District Line of the London Underground. In the year 2011 there were 4.25 million subway passengers the station, added 0.888 million passengers by rail.

The station building was built after the plans of John Fowler in the classical style. Since 2000 it is a listed building (Grade II).

History

The West London Extension Joint Railway ( WLEJR ) opened in 1860 a distance between Kensington ( Olympia) and Clapham Junction. For several years, the trains in Brompton without stopping by, until the opening of the station in 1866. On April 12, 1869, the Metropolitan District Railway opened (MDR ), the predecessor company of the District Line, its own railway station near by the WLEJR. For subway trains was here eleven years terminus, the extension towards Putney Bridge went on 1 March 1880 in operation. The electric subway operation began on 23 July 1905.

1940 suffered several stations along the now as West London Line ( WLL) designated railway track damaged by aerial bombs. Passenger services between Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction therefore had to be set on 20 September 1940. The metro station remained in operation, but wrong on the WLL only freight trains. The stations on the WLL were eventually demolished. In 1994, one passenger services on the WLL on again; with the commissioning of two new platforms kept the trains from June 1, 1999, in West Brompton.
