Westport, County Mayo

Westport ( Irish: Cathair na Mart ) is a town in County Mayo on the west coast of Ireland. It is located at the southeast end of Clew Bay, an arm of the sea of the Atlantic Ocean, and has 5,163 inhabitants ( 2006). Westport is one of the few planned cities in the country applied. The city center consists of an ensemble of townhouses in the Georgian style. Especially picturesque is the Mall, a tree- lined promenade on both sides of Carrowbeg.

History

Westport is the unusual case of a planned city in Ireland. Cathair na Mart The village was originally located here was built in the 1780s replaced by the present city.
