Wetterhorn Peak

Wetterhorn Peak (English for Wetterhorn Peak ) is a mountain in southwestern Colorado, USA. He is part of the Uncompahgre Wilderness Area in the San Juan Mountains and is situated on the border between the counties Hinsdale and Ouray. About four kilometers east rises the 4361 meters high Uncompahgre Peak. Wetterhorn Peak has a saddle height of 498 meters.

The mountain, which is only thirteen kilometers from the famous town of Ouray, was named after the Wetterhorn in Switzerland. This sees him less similar than the Matterhorn. From this, however, has Matterhorn peak, another peak in the San Juan Mountains, its name.

Ascent

The first known ascent was made by George Barnard, C. Smedley, WP Smedley, and D. Utter in 1906. It is believed that the miners who worked in the area in the 19th century, the actual first ascent took.

The normal route to the summit via the south-east ridge, which in turn is accessible from the creek of the Matterhorn Creek. The trail starts at the Henson Creek Road, which leads to the County Seat Lake City. The difficulty of the route is mediocre, some must be climbed. On the east wall of the mountain extreme skiing is possible.
