The project was implemented by the then Commissioner bath Bad Kissingen ( modern: Kurverwaltung ). The works were projected for spring 1912. This act may be taken as evidence for the early tourist use.

Since the first weekend in November 2012 the gnomes caves are closed to the public after parts of a larger rock formation were canceled. The cleanup work is not yet complete. Due to the rock barrier directly leading past the goblin caves trails and geological discovery trails were " way by the time " (7.5 km ) from Bad Kissingen to your village and " Panorama wine and stone " (12 km) from your village to Bad Kissingen in the affected stretch redirected. According to estimation by the Bavarian Office for the Environment in October 2013, the pending on the mountain side rock with progressive erosion once the hike down into the valley Leite chunk of the Franconian Saale. The painter and watercolorist Emil Waldmann dedicated on the occasion of an exhibition in Bad Bocklet in 2009 a cycle of three watercolors the theme, gnome caves '. In 2010, the Municipal Administration of Bad Kissingen first published a Faltflyer as information for Geotop.

Myths and legends

Imp convents on the pulpit

The Elves would hold regular conventions on the pulpit. The leader uses this as a platform for his speeches. It would thereby keep hearing many sounds and noises in the forest.

The Elves in the Lindenmühle help the Müller

The Elves helped once the miller of the nearby Lindenmühle ( in different stories a peasant ). After he had insulted the elves, this disappeared and Müller ( Bauer) got into trouble.

Escape tunnel from the Botenlauben

From the ruins Botenlauben starting there should have been an escape tunnel. This supposedly ended with the Imp caves. Just the Franconian Saale intervening makes this story seem structurally unlikely.
