Wickerode is a town in the southern Harz in the district of Mansfeld- South Harz in Saxony- Anhalt. The town was incorporated on 1 September 2010 and until then co-managed by the community Suedharz. Last was mayor Petra Buchholz.
Geographical Location
Wickerode is located in the southern Harz on the road between Bennungen and Questenberg or Kleinleinungen.
History
The first mention was made in 1111 as Wigharderode. Wickerode was the property of the Counts of Stolberg and was part of the Office Questenberg in the County of Stolberg- Roßla. Until 1815 Wickerode was under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Saxony, and then got to the administrative district of the Prussian province of Saxony Merseburg. Wickerode was several decades seat of a mining authority of the Counts of Stolberg- Wernigerode. 1819 lived in Wickerode 321 inhabitants in 77 houses. Here the Sanskrit and Buddhist researcher Rudolf Otto Franke was born on 24 June 1862 as a miller's son.
From 1952 to 1990 Wickerode belonged to the East German district hall.
