The Floridsdorf station is the most important traffic building north of the Danube in Vienna and is located in the 21st district. It includes a subway station next to the actual train station for regional trains and S-Bahn. Here is both the northern terminus of the S- Bahn route as well as the northern terminus of metro line U6. Along with its numerous shops, public facilities such as the Municipal District Office and numerous interchanges to regional buses is a suburban center of the station.
The history of the railroad goes here though until the 1830s back, but it was only in the 1960s, the current station was opened at this point. The old station Floridsdorf was located approximately 500 meters north of the current traffic station at the height Weisselgasse. 1873, the workshops were put into operation, which still exist today as Hauotwerkstätte Floridsdorf. The construction of the extension of the U6 to Floridsdorf the original high-speed railway station has been completely rebuilt and handed over to its May 4, 1996. The central platform of the U6 is located in the basement, on a pedestrian passage that opens the regions of the S -Bahn in high position on the Franz -Jonas -Platz.
The train station is a major transfer hubs, run it there for four tram lines, five urban bus lines, three night bus lines, several of the regional bus and shuttle bus to the G3 Shopping Resort Gera village. Until the completion of the new central train station, stopping at the Vienna Floridsdorf station also sporadically Euro City trains.
The station has five platforms. From the platform 3 and 4 trains direction Stockerau, Wolkersdorf and Gaenserndorf, from platform 1 and 2 trains to Vienna Meidling, from platform 5 trains to Vienna International Airport. The U6 has its own two underground platforms.
