Geography

Wieslet is situated in 404-740 meters altitude in the Southern Black Forest, where the valley widens the little meadow to a fertile plain. More than half of the former commune's territory is covered by forests.

Structure

In the territory of the former municipality Wieslet are Wieslet the village, the community part Eichholz and the hamlet Hensch mountain. In the former area contains the Outbound castle Rotenberg and the deserted village Schweighof.

History

Wieslet was first documented in 1157.

On the north of the village located Rotenberg stood the castle of the lords of Rotenburg, a branch of the lords of Rötteln in the Middle Ages. It was destroyed by the 1356 Basel earthquake, which not only laid the city of Basel in ruins, but also along the High Rhine and caused major damage in the Breisgau. The wooden huts of the common people were found to be more resistant. Since 1936, the city belongs to the district of Lörrach. On 1 January 2009, the previously separate municipality Wieslet was incorporated into the newly established village of Little meadow valley.

Policy

Former council

The council was composed of eight members who are elected by direct vote for five years. The last election was in 2004. In April 2007, the committee dissolved itself, in which the councilors unanimously dismissed each other. The then newly elected eight-member council took on the task until 31 December 2008.

Ortschaftsrat since January 1, 2009

On 1 January 2009 the former municipality councils formed a transitional Ortschaftsrat the district Wieslet in the municipality Small meadow valley. In August 2009, a newly elected five -member Ortschaftsrat was put into office, from the middle of a mayor was elected.

Coat of arms

The former coat of arms shows the front view of a red deer head on a silver background with the coat of arms of the lords of Rotenberg between its antlers. The deer head is the sanktblasische branch monastery Weitenau and his lordship over the place. The Rotenbergsche coat of arms - above a red lion, down two blue waves - is the headquarters of the Red Berger, the Rotenburg at Wieslet.

Museum

By Ernst- Schleith studio and the Friedrich Ludwig Museum there are two small museums that pay tribute to the two painters born in Wieslet.
