Wilhelm Junker

Wilhelm Junker (Russian:. .. . Василий Васильевич Юнкер; * 25 Märzjul / April 6 1840greg in Moscow, † 1 Februarjul / February 13 1892greg in Saint Petersburg ) was a German - Russian explorer of Africa.

Life

Junker was born to German parents in Moscow. The family moved in 1844 to St. Petersburg, in 1844 to Göttingen. 1847 his father died; with his mother and his siblings returned Wilhelm Junker 1855 back to St. Petersburg. He studied at Dorpat, Göttingen, Berlin and Prague, medicine and visited Iceland in 1869.

Between 1873 and 1874 traveled Junker North Africa and went to 1876 by Suakin to Kassala and Khartoum. In September of the same year he sailed the lower Sobat. He then went by Lado in a westerly direction until after Makaraka, 1877 over the River Tondj to Wau in 1878 and returned to Europe.

In 1879 he undertook another trip to Africa and explored the territory of the Niam - Niam (sands ) and the Monbuttu. His companion Frederick Bohndorff had to return from illness in 1882.
