Wilhelmina von Bremen

Wilhelmina "Billie " of Bremen (after marriage Asch, born August 13, 1909 in San Francisco, † July 23, 1976 in Alameda ) was an American track and field athlete and Olympic champion.

A graduate of Commerce High School of San Francisco, worked as an accountant in the Emporium Department Store, excelled in its basketball operations team and soon focused on the sprint. In preparation for the Summer Olympics 1932, she was formally the Association Western Women's Club affiliated.

As a participant in the Games in Los Angeles, she won the 100 -meter run the bronze medal behind the Polish Stanisław Walasiewicz ( gold) and the Canadian Hilda Strike (silver). In the 4 × 100 m relay she took with the U.S. team gold medal, along with their teammates Mary Carew, Evelyn Furtsch and Annette Rogers.

In the same year she was elected Miss California. In October 1935 she married the lawyer Robert B. Ash, with whom she lived in Palo Alto. She was the mother of a son and played passionate tennis. In 1976 she died of a heart attack when she watched a professional tennis tournament with her husband.
