William Dozier

William McElroy Dozier ( born February 13, 1908 in Omaha, Nebraska, † 23 April 1991 in Santa Monica, California ) was an American film producer and actor.

Life

Dozier worked in the 1940s at RKO Pictures as a department manager. In 1946 he separated from his first wife and married a few days later, the actress Joan Fontaine, which he was also brother of Olivia de Havilland. With Fontaine, he founded the film production company Rampart Productions, whose first production was the Max Ophüls Literaturverfilmung Letter from an Unknown. Until the divorce from Fontaine 1951 some more feature films, including The liar with Joan Crawford in the title role originated. Then he produced almost exclusively for the U.S. television. In 1953 he married actress Ann Rutherford, this third marriage lasted until his death. His most successful television production was produced the 1966-1968 series Batman with Adam West in the title role. He also produced pilots for series adaptations of Batgirl and Dick Tracy, however, were not realized. Dozier was also responsible for the series The Green Hornet, which was stopped production after only one season due to lack of success, however, marked the beginning of the film career of Bruce Lee as a producer.

Dozier was seen occasionally in addition to his production work in small roles before the camera; the American public is especially familiar with their voice, as he participated in the original versions of Batman and The Green Hornet as narrator.
