William Haomae

William Ni'i Haomae (* November 26, 1960 in Mou Village, Small Malaita, Malaita Province ) is a Solomon Islands politician.

Biography

After schooling and training at the East - West Center Honolulu, he entered the government service in the Solomon Islands and was first employee for information in the Office of the Prime Minister, before he then was press secretary to the Prime Minister. After working as an employee for foreign intelligence at the Foreign Ministry, he returned as director of the Information Department back to the prime minister.

His political career began Haomae on 26 May 1993 when he (PPP ) was first elected a deputy of the National Parliament ( National Parliament of Solomon Islands ) as a candidate of the Progressive People's Party. In the elections of August 6, 1997 and April 5, 2006 he was re-elected and each is representative of the constituency of Small Malaita.

In 1994 he was appointed by Prime Minister Solomon Mamaloni Minister for Culture, Tourism and Aviation and held that office until the end of Mamalonis term on 5 August 1997. From July 2000 to January 2001, he was initially police and justice minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare. This called him later from August to December 2001, even as Deputy Prime Minister. In this role Haomae also acted as Acting Minister for National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace. From 21 April to 4 May 2006 he was Minister for Police and National Security in the short reigning Cabinet of Prime Minister Snyder Rini.

In August 2007, he applied for a vote of no confidence (motion of no - confidence ) in Parliament against the incumbent Prime Minister Sogavare, but by Parliament President ( Speaker) Sir Peter Kenilorea was rejected as inadmissible.

On 22 December 2007 he was appointed the new Prime Minister Derek Sikua to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, External Trade and Immigration in the government. In October 2008 it came to diplomatic upsets after. In press reports, Prime Minister Sikua a snub of Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd Haomae had these press reports back as a lie.

In its role as foreign minister, he took in April 2009 as Acting Chairman of Council of Ministers of the ACP States on a Common Assembly of the European Union and the ACP countries in Prague and was a leader of the 89th Assembly of the Council of Ministers of the ACP States in May 2009.
