William Hutt (actor)

William Ian DeWitt Hutt, CC, O.Ont ( born 2 May 1920 in Toronto, Ontario, † June 27, 2007 in Stratford ) was a Canadian film and theater actor.

Life

Hutt was born the second of three children in Toronto. During the Second World War, he worked for five years as a physician, for which he was awarded a medal for bravery. After the war he studied at the University of Toronto. In 1953 he was a member in the first season of the Stratford Festival of Canada.

He appeared in roles such as Le Moyne in the film The Statement and in other television roles in film and television.

His last public role was the Prospero in William Shakespeare's play The Tempest. He should occur again in 2007 at the Stratford Festival, but it was due to his health no longer perform the role.

Hutt, who had leukemia, died peacefully on 27 June 2007 in Stratford, Ontario.
