William James Mayo
William James Mayo ( born June 29, 1861 in Le Sueur, Minnesota, † July 28, 1939 in Rochester, Minnesota ), called Will Mayo, was an American surgeon and co-founder of the Mayo Clinic.
Career
Mayo made the receiving his degree in medicine in 1883 at the University of Michigan. After a tornado had struck Rochester in August 1883, he helped his father, William Worrall Mayo when operating a makeshift clinic. Along with this, and his brother Charles Horace he founded in 1889, the St. Mary's Hospital. In the following years it became a modern clinic, which enjoys a worldwide reputation as the Mayo Clinic.
Will Mayo himself became one of the most sought after surgeons in the United States, the continued mainly by its interdisciplinary treatment standards.
