William Murphy (Bishop of Rockville Centre)

William Francis Murphy ( born May 14, 1940 in Boston) is an American clergyman and Bishop of Rockville Centre on Long Iceland, United States.

Life

The rector of the Pontifical North American College, Francis Frederick Reh, ordained him a priest on 16 December 1964.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 21 November 1995 as Auxiliary Bishop of Boston and Titular Bishop of Saia Maior. The Archbishop of Boston, Bernard Francis Cardinal Law, donated to him on 27 December of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were William Wakefield Cardinal Tree, Kardinalgroßpönitentiar, and Alfred Clifton Hughes, Bishop of Baton Rouge.

On 26 June 2001 he was appointed Bishop of Rockville Centre and introduced into the office on September 5th of that year.
