William Tracy

William Tracy, and William Tracey, originally Clarence William Tracy ( born December 1, 1917 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, † June 18, 1967 in Hollywood, California ) was an American film actor. He was predestined long on the role of sons or smart young men in Hollywood films of the 1930s and 1940s.

Life

William Tracy trained as an actor at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he had leading roles in musicals on Broadway. The first feature film in which he starred, in 1938 Brother Rat. After that he worked in more than 30 other feature films and numerous television productions. In two movies Tracy was also active as a singer of popular songs at that time. His most famous roles he played in 1940 in the film The Shop Around the end as shrewd errand boy " Pepi " and in the film Terry and the Pirates in 1940, where he also played his only lead role. Mostly, however, he appeared in supporting roles.

Among the major movie stars, with whom he appeared together in films, were Ronald Reagan, Jane Wyman, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Betty Grable, Jackie Coogan, Melvyn Douglas, Margaret Sullavan, James Stewart, Frank Morgan, Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland.

He is not related to the famous actor Spencer Tracy. His last feature film was 30 in 1959. Tracy died in 1967 from the effects of cancer. With Lois James, he was married from 1945 to 1958 and had a daughter.

Television roles

In numerous series William Tracy had, especially in the 50s and 60s, guest appearances, as in Lassie, Perry Mason, Dick Tracy, Wyatt Earp intervenes, The Westener, Dragnet, December Bride, Chevron Hall of Stars, Navy Log and Willy. As a protagonist, he appeared in the series Terry and the Pirates of 1953.
