Willis Islands

The Willi Islands (English Willis Islands ) are a small, uninhabited island off the western coast of South Georgia in the South Atlantic. The islands are located 3.2 km west of Bird Iceland and about 4 kilometers west of the main island of South Georgia and thus represent - the Shag Rocks not taken into account - the westernmost land mass of South Georgia represents the group consists of a large island in the West ( Main Iceland ), a slightly smaller island to the east ( Trinity Iceland ) and numerous very small islands.

Politically, one of the islands to the British overseas territory of " South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands ", but is also claimed by Argentina.

The islands were discovered on January 14, 1775 to James Cook's second Pacific voyage and after Thomas Willis, the sailor of the sighted them first named.

The larger of the Willi Islands is a popular area of Antarctic fur seals (Arctocephalus gazella ).
