Wilmshagen is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen Sundhagen northeast of Pomerania.

Geography and transport

Wilmshagen located about 8 km northeast of the city of Pomerania and about 17 km south of Stralsund. Thanks to the former municipality of the B runs 96 of these, the Baltic Sea motorway A 20 connecting Stralsund is reached (approx. 10 km).

History

After the dissolution of the Principality of Rügen in 1325, the village belonged to the Duchy of Pomerania.

After the Thirty Years War to the year 1815, the area belongs to Swedish Pomerania and then to the Prussian province of Pomerania.

Wilmshagen was until 1952 part of the district of Pomerania and was thereafter until 1994 Circle of Pomerania in the district of Rostock. Since 1990 belongs to the place to Mecklenburg- Vorpommern.

The community Wilmshagen joined on 7 June 2009 with the communities Behnke village, Brandshagen, Horst, Kirchdorf, Miltzow and Reinberg for new community Sundhagen together. It consisted of the districts Bremerhagen and Wilmshagen.
