Wingecarribee is located about 120 km southwest of the city of Sydney and 160 km northeast of the Australian capital Canberra in the region Illawarra of the state. The area includes 70 districts and towns, including Balmoral Village, Berrima, Bowral, Bundanoon, Burradoo, Burrawang, Colo Vale, Exeter, Fitzroy Falls, Hill Top, Mittagong, Penrose, Robertson, Sutton Forest, Willow Vale, Wingello, Yerrinbool and a part of Buxton. The seat of the Shire Council is located in the town of Moss Vale in the center of the LGA, where about 6,700 inhabitants.
