Witchfynde

Witchfynde is a NWOBHM band. It was founded in Mansfield, England in 1976 and plays heavy metal with occult texts in the tradition of Black Sabbath and Black Widow.

Band History

In 1979 she received a contract with the record company Rondelet Records, which was mainly a punk label at that time. There, the first single, Give ' em Hell / Gettin ' Heavy was released.

In 1980 the LP Give ' Em Hell. It contains the song Unto the Ages of the Ages an epic, nine-minute song. The rest of the album is to settle in the area faster. After the release of the album Witchfynde went on tour. They played the opening act for Def Leppard. In the same year they released their second album Stagefright, on the first played Pete " Thud " Surgey bass. Compared to debut the music had lost some of its hardness. The single in the Stars / Wake Up Screaming was coupled out of the album.

1981 were Witchfynde on in the famous Friday Rock Show BBC. The song was released on the compilation Belfast this show. For the first time was here on vocals Luther Beltz heard.

Rondelet Records supporting the band little, particularly the expensive live shows could not finance the small record company. Two years took the band to dissolve the contract. During this time it became quiet around Witchfynde.

In 1983 the album Cloak and Dagger, which sounded musically harder. Changed the band had made ​​at the fledgling record company Expulsion Ltd. .. The sales of the album in Europe via Roadrunner Records. As a single I'd Rather Go Wild was released. The song also appeared on the compilation Metal Battle, published by the legendary record label Neat Records.

Even with expulsion Witchfynde had no luck. The contract was canceled in 1984. The Belgian label Mausoleum Records soon released the last album Lords of Sin. The first 10,000 copies were published with a live 12 " called Anthems. The planned album covers could not be realized. The band wanted to take the photos for the London Dungeon. Vocalist Luther Beltz should pose with naked men and women. When the competent authority learned of this, the photographs were canceled.

Shortly after the album's release and the accompanying Single Conspiracy, the band broke up. Lars Ulrich published later the song Leaving Nadir on the information collected by him Sampler NWOBHM 79 Revisited.

CD versions of the albums Give ' em Hell and Stagefright published in 1992. Lords of Sin was released in 1994. In 1996 a best-of album.

Reunion

1999 found the band in the cast Montalo (guitar), Gra Scoresby (drums) and Pete Surgey ( bass) back together. As a new singer Harry Harrison came into the group. In 2001 they released their Reunionalbum The Witching Hour. The album also contained old pieces, recorded with the new line.

The band played at the 2004 Swedish Motala Metal Festival VIII and the German festival Keep It True.

Under the same band name with a different spelling ( Wytchfynde ) published the second vocalist Luther Beltz 2001 album The Awakening.
